DEAREST JOHN

Picking up the flowers I drove up to our home
I'd not seen her for two months now
She's been alone,
I'd been to Rome on business.
Banging hard upon that door,
no reply
Looking down I saw the mail and milk
Outside, with a note beside, I read the line

CHORUS:
It said "Dearest John, Why have you been so long,
You didn't try to write or phone at all
Dearest John you know I can't go on
I couldn't wait this long again for
Anyone, for anyone."

Falling down upon my knees I gave a cry
I knew I'd give up everything for one more try,
I gave a sigh, as I read the lines.
